Celebrate Christmas at the depot in Newark Valley during Holiday Magic event

A Frosty and Heavenly Christmas will greet you at the Depot in Newark Valley Dec. 12 and 13, from 4 to 8 p.m. with snowmen and angels everywhere!

Friday is open house at the Depot with live music by Daphne’ Braden from 4 to 6 p.m., and Dan Drewey from 6:15 to 7:45 p.m. Relax with a cup of hot cocoa and one of their famous desserts while you enjoy the music and the holiday atmosphere at the Depot.

Saturday is Holiday Magic and that brings kids of all ages to the Depot to see Santa who will be arriving at the Depot to listen and talk with children at approximately 4:30 p.m., and departing for the North Pole around 7:30 p.m.

The Depot will be dressed to the nines with brightly lighted trees, snowmen, and angels everywhere you look. Be sure to check out the mural made by quilter Lynn Loomis on the wall across from the kitchen. It is truly a work of art.

This is a train depot so expect to see a Christmas Train chugging around a dioramic layout in the waiting room. On Saturday, during Holiday Magic, kids can write a letter to Santa and mail it in “Santa’s Mailbox”, and while they wait to talk with Santa there will be holiday crafts to keep them busy.

Of course it wouldn’t be the Depot without oodles of delectable food, to include sloppy joes, chili, pulled pork and, of course, be sure to save room for their delicious and scrumptiously decant desserts. Mulled cider and hot chocolate will keep you warm as you head outside.

On Saturday in the beautifully decorated Rollie Noble Room beside the post office, gaze at the creative and elaborately designed gingerbread houses. There is no fee to enter the Gingerbread Contest and there are cash prizes. Contact JoAnn Byrne at 902-5020 or email to jbyrne@nvcs.stier.org by Dec. 10. While you are in the Noble room be sure to indulge in homemade cakes and candies made by area school and community groups.

On Saturday horse and wagon rides between the Village Green and the Depot, provided by Will-Lo Farm and their beautiful black percherons will be available throughout the evening.

It’s going to be a fun weekend so mark it on your calendar, find your warmest mittens and plan on coming to Newark Valley Dec. 12 and 13; Friday for the open house at the Depot and Saturday for Holiday Magic.
