Newark Valley man arrested for terroristic threats

OWEGO, N.Y, — On Friday, Oct. 17, 2025, Owego Police Officers were dispatched to Kwik Fill Gas Station on North Avenue for a suspicious condition. Officers investigated the incident and discovered that David P. Cox Jr., age 54 of Newark Valley, N.Y., had made comments wanting to harm Law Enforcement Officers and federal officers, including his intent to travel to New York City to “fire bomb” law enforcement during the “No Kings Protests.”  

Owego Police relayed the information to all agencies in the State of New York.

The New York City Police Intelligence Bureau, combined with the New York State Police Counter Terrorism Unit, was able to track and find Cox’s vehicle in New York City, Brooklyn 66th Precinct. Cox was taken into custody without incident, according to police, and during the search of his vehicle, no weapons or fire bombs were found.

David P. Cox Jr. was arrested by the New York Police Department for Making Terroristic Threats, filing a false report of terrorism, and making a threat of mass harm.

Village of Owego Police assisted the NYPD Intelligence Bureau and NYSP Counter Terrorism Unit in this incident.
