This April, Fuddy Duddy’s Confectionery conducted a local fundraiser to raise money and awareness of the Russian war and aggression toward Ukraine and its people. In this endeavor, Kimberly Cruty, owner of the business, designed and created a milk chocolate sunflower that was available for sale in store and on their website, fuddyduddys.com. The sunflower is the national flower of Ukraine.
At the end of the month, Fuddy Duddy’s generated $1,225 in chocolate sunflower sales. In this effort, Fuddy Duddy’s Confectionery partnered with Father Teodor Czabala and Sacred Heart Ukrainian Church in Johnson City, NY. Throughout the war, Sacred Heart has worked to organize, deliver, and disseminate needed resources to Ukraine including medical supplies, clothing, food, and other essential items totaling hundreds of thousands of dollars to date. In addition to monetary support, Fuddy Duddy’s also donated chocolates and candy, which will be delivered to children in Ukraine.
Stephen Cruty, owner of Fuddy Duddy’s, commented, “Kim and I would like to thank everyone who supported our fundraiser this month. Every local action adds up and helps Ukrainians in need, even in a little way. We try to make their lives a bit sweeter.”
Cruty’s family originated in Eastern Slovakia, not far from the Ukrainian border.
“We have family and friends in those villages,” said Cruty, adding, “They see the ravages of this war and tell us their stories. Anything we can do to help is needed and appreciated.”
Fuddy Duddy’s Confectionery, owned and operated by Stephen and Kimberly Cruty, is located at 27 Lake St. in downtown Owego. They specialize in homemade baked goods, fudge, chocolate, sweets, and gifting services.
