The first night of the demolition derby at the Tioga County Fair couldn’t stay dry. But that didn’t stop any of the drivers from banging up a few cars.
The new arena in front of the new grand stands makes for a more exciting derby this year than in the past. The large square field allowed for some drivers to play cat and mouse before delivering the final blow. The new stands were packed despite the rain that started during the second heat.
First up came the Junk Run where Frank Swansbrough took home the $1,000 check. The other four heats were won in order by Jamie Browne, Fred Craft, Austin Judson, and Roger Walburn.
The demolition derby takes place again tonight, begin at 7 p.m. The one price gate admission of $10 allows access to rides and the grandstand shows, including the derby.
