On Tuesday, Tioga Downs Casino Resort, located on River Road in Nichols, N.Y., held a media luncheon, offering members of the press a preview of upcoming events and entertainment. The luncheon took place just days before the opening day of the harness racing season at Tioga Downs.
The opening day on Saturday, May 4, had a full slate of activities planned to include a Derby Hat contest, giveaways throughout the day, and various track promotions.
Other activities planned include a fireworks show on May 26 to celebrate Memorial Day, the Charity Cup on Saturday, June 8, where nonprofit organizations will have the chance to test their wagering knowledge, and a Weiner Dog Trot, planned for Sunday, June 16 at 1 p.m. A second Weiner Dog Trot is scheduled for Aug. 10.
There will be an Independence Day Race on July 4 at 1 p.m., and the Joie De Vie Open Mare Trot and the Crawford Farms Open Trot will take place on Sunday, Aug. 11. On Aug. 18, the track will host the Empire Breeders Classic Finals, the Roll with Joe Open Pace and the Artiscape Open Mare Pace.
On Sept. 2, and over the Labor Day weekend, there will be a Million-Dollar Ball Drop. The grand prize in this contest is $1 million. It starts at 1 p.m.
There will be a Horseplay Car giveaway promotion on Sept. 21. The winner of the giveaway will receive a new 2019 Toyota Corolla Hatchback.
The summer concert series was also announced on Tuesday. Returning to the track is Chubby Checker and Charlie Thomas’ Drifters on June 7. George Thorogood and The Destroyers will be at the casino on July 26. Lee Greenwood will perform with Crystal Gayle on Aug. 8, and Smash Mouth will close out the 2019 summer concert series.
