The Coburn Free Library, in Owego, N.Y., recently announced the groundbreaking of their long awaited elevator annex. On Friday, Feb. 8, an official project construction event was held at the library.

The Accessibility Project will include construction of an annex in the rear of the building that provides an at-grade entrance, elevator access to each level of the historic building, and an ADA accessible restroom. The goal is to make the library accessible for all.
According to the library, the project is scheduled for completion late this year. With donations and pledges to date, Coburn Free Library has secured funding for more than half of the project cost.
The Coburn Free Library Board is committed to providing this resource for the community. To do so, they will use a line of credit to complete the construction. This loan must be repaid to ensure the long-term welfare of the library. This means the library will continue to request the support of local foundations and individuals to help complete this necessary project.
Donations can be sent to the library at 275 Main St., Owego, N.Y. 13827. Be sure to include a note directing your donation to the elevator fund.
