Sanmina announces layoffs and facility closure

Sanmina announces layoff and eventual closure

In a Dec. 6 letter from Sanmina to local officials, they announced that they will begin employee separations. In the letter, James Ryan, director of PCB Operations, stated that employee separations in connection with this action are expected to occur during a 14-day period beginning on March 7, 2018.

The letter also stated that the separations will continue until the facility eventually closes. The letter did not, however, state an anticipated date of facility closure.

Among the positions noted for separation during the first phase, planned for March 7, is an administrative support position, inspectors, machine operators and others, totaling 161 employees. Sanmina currently employs 274.

The company also noted that there are no bumping rights for affected employees, and that the affected employees are not represented by any union.

The Owego Pennysaver will be following this story.
