Pictured is the 1930’s Harley driven by Alexander Antelek, which once belonged to his grandfather. Antelek said he can reach up to 70mph, and that the fuel tank holds one gallon. He has to pedal it to start it. To view a video of the pedal start, you can follow Bike Night at the Owego Parkview on Facebook. (Photo by Wendy Post)

Last week’s Bike Night featured two bands under one tent as Hummel’s Mug opened up for Whey Jennings and the Unwanted. The attendance was good at Bike Night, with many new and interesting motorcycles and even an antique vehicle arriving for Wednesday’s show.

With summer’s end closing in, the last night for Bike Night in Owego will take place on Wednesday and will feature a performance by The Gents, as well as a guest appearance by Jeff Howell, former bassist with Foghat, The Outlaws and Savoy Brown.

The Gents is a five-piece band that recently formed in 2015, and is committed to going above and beyond to provide unique performances for their audience.

The band, Greg Meisner (lead vocals and guitar), Dan Almy (lead guitar and vocals), Jeff Rembecki (drums), David Cook (keyboards and vocals) and Sid Peake (bass, guitar and vocals), is comprised of veteran members of a number of well-known groups that had performed in the local/regional area over many years.

The Gents play a mix of classic rock, blues-rock, and progressive rock. They are influenced by artists such as Rush, Toto, Foghat, Cheap Trick and Chicago.

The Gents performed last year at Blues on the Bridge in Binghamton, which has recently celebrated its 15th anniversary, and they also performed at this year’s Strawberry Festival Block Party in Owego.

The Gents have never played at Bike Night, and will perform as the closing act for the season on Aug. 30, from 6:30 to 9 p.m.

An old friend to members of the band, Jeff Howell, will also make a guest appearance on Aug. 30, alongside The Gents. After leaving Acts – a band based out of Binghamton – Howell met Kim Simmonds, the founder of the British band Savoy Brown, and joined his band.

Howell later joined Foghat, and after touring countless countries around the globe, such as Japan, Howell then joined The Outlaws for three years.

Two of the biggest venues Jeff has played are at Salt Lake City in 1991 with 100,000 people, while The Wacken Festival in 2004 had a turnout of 80,000 heavy metal lovers.

Howell has performed at Bike Night for years with various bands, and has stepped in a time or two with other bands performing at Bike Night.

Jeff Howell continues to play with the same enthusiasm he had decades ago and looks forward to the next chapter of his musical career. Mainly Howell has stayed true to his passion by writing and recording his own ideas and has compiled an innovative collection of songs on his release of “First Time”.

Upstate Shredding is the sponsor for Wednesday’s final Bike Night event, and Southern Tier Harley Davidson, another sponsor, will also be on hand.
