‘Compost as a state of mind’ presented in Owego

On Thursday, May 18 at 7 p.m., Elizabeth Whitehouse will present “Compost as a state of mind” at the Tioga County office building’s Hubbard Auditorium, located on the corner of Main and Academy Streets in Owego.

Elizabeth Whitehouse of Compost International explains the hows, the whys, and the wherefores of growing our way to prosperity by the simple expedient of returning organic material to the soil. Her mission is to save the earth, one compost heap at a time.

Composters look at the world differently. Their world consists of stuff they can compost and stuff they can’t. Before long, they begin to reject anything in the second category, and their lives become focused on the cycles of nature. Before long, bacteria, fungi and earthworms are their best friends, and they are playing a vital role in maintaining the rhythms of life.

Whitehouse will explain how the backyard composter can help regenerate degraded soils, retain moisture and sequester carbon. Like charity, composting begins at home.

This event is sponsored by the Sierra Club Susquehanna Group Tioga County Task Force and RAFT (Residents Allied for the Future of Tioga). For more information, contact Erin Riddle by calling or texting (607) 372-5503. You can also email Riddle at riddleriddle@gmail.com
