The Candor Chamber of Commerce and Bostwick Auctions, along with multiple community volunteers, invite you to shop and participate in the event, “Get Your Flea Fix on Route 96.” A large indoor and outdoor flea market, the event is scheduled Friday, July 8 from 4 p.m. to 8 p.m. and Saturday, July 9 from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m.
For flea market and yard sale enthusiasts, the “Get Your Flea Fix” event is a big one. The Flea Market route stretches some 25 miles and will include hundreds of vendors.
From yard sales to flea markets selling household goods, antiques, handmade items and crafts, country / primitive selections, and nearly everything else imaginable, the planned route is Route 96 starting in Owego and continuing on to Catatonk and Candor (including Route 96B), and over to Spencer and West Danby on the way towards Ithaca.
Food and refreshments will be available at different spots along the flea market route, too, for instance Bostwick Auctions is holding a chicken barbeque. Local businesses in Owego and Candor and within the Flea Market radius will also be hosting special sales on July 8 and 9 in conjunction with the event.
“It’s always been a dream of mine to do a Route 96 sale,” shared Laurie Bostwick of Bostwick Auctions, located at 1121 Rte. 96 in Candor, N.Y.
A third generation auctioneer since 1994, Laurie Bostwick commented that she loves the business she is in, and is excited about the first “Get Your Flea Fix” event. She is confident it will be successful and hopes it will continue as an annual event.
“We have a great committee planning this,” Laurie added, “Thanks to the Candor Chamber of Commerce and every community member and business involved.”
As for sellers who want to secure a spot on the flea market trail, friends, neighbors, churches and local businesses are urged to join in on the fun.
Laurie Bostwick said, “The more the better,” and she added, “It’s all about supporting each other and the communities.”
Bostwick Auctions and the Planning Committee are looking for sellers to sign up on an advertising list. For free, individuals holding a yard sale in front of their property can have their address listed on a brochure / map that will be printed and available for customers to use as they travel Route 96/96B.
Brochures / maps will be available for pick-up at eight different flea market locations along the route. Also, a complete list and map will be made available on the Bostwick Auctions Facebook page on July 8 and 9.
