Honor a veteran on Memorial Day – and every day

Dear Editor,

Memorial Day is fast approaching. This is the day we honor our past, present, and future veterans for their service, sacrifice, and dedication to our nation. In all actuality they should be honored on a daily basis.

I give my thanks to Becky’s Diner for honoring our veterans with a huge display of our flag, which shows great respect and gratitude. I recently read an article in a Veterans Magazine, which surveyed people ages 17-24 and ages 24-29 on whether or not they would consider signing up for the Draft to fight ISIS. The results were shockingly low for those who would sign up.

Why such low percentage? I have a few thoughts on this.

The state of our government today?

Political leaders who are serving time in prison for corruption are still collecting pensions ranging from $800,000-$970,000 for the rest of their lives.

If a veteran is incarcerated for more than three months he / she Loses ALL benefits including disability.

Veterans who make sacrifices to protect our country lose benefits whereas corrupt political leaders are rewarded.

Do our veterans receive proper wages, benefits, care, and respect for the jobs that they do?

Could it be the lies and promises they were told they would receive for signing up only to find out later they would not?

I wonder how so many men and women in Government can overlook the fact that they have no common sense, gratitude, or respect for our veterans. It is time for Americans to unite and put the broken pieces of the U.S.A. back together again.

Please get out Memorial Day and show your support, gratitude, and respect for our Veterans. Honor them. God Bless our Veterans. Bless those who Honor them.

Sincerely,

Robert L. Owen

Proud to be a Veteran
