Hi everyone. This is Ian Gallagher. It’s that time of the year again and I will be doing St. Baldrick’s with my 6-year old stepson, Christopher Hartman. We will be shaving our heads to stand in solidarity with the children and teens going through chemo from cancer. We are accepting donations at Las Chicas Taqueria, the Boys & Girls Club, and online at www.stbaldricks.org/events/mypage/4251/2016. Please make donations to “the O Zone”. Please help us raise awareness and funds to help find cures for cancer and fund research. The head-shaving event will be at the Candor Firehouse on April 3 from 1 to 4 p.m.

“Everyone Can Help” Simply save your can tabs to benefit the Ronald McDonald House. Pick up the Tab, providing families a home away from hone while their loved ones are receiving medical care. Little things can make a big difference. Tabs can be dropped off at the neighborhood redemption center on route 17C next to Paul’s Dry Cleaning. Let’s pull together!

With the safety rules and regulations that laws make, I can’t understand how they overlook the fact that women who do most of the cooking have to reach over hot burners and/or cooking pots to get to the dials on an electric stove. Very often they are in housecoats, they have to reach over hot burners, hot pots and nobody cares. The dials are on the back of the stove. I wonder if men did most of the cooking if it would still be like that.

Trumpety Trump Trump, Trumpety Trump Trump, Trump is on his way. Thirty years of stealing from middle class working American families by both national and local politicians, with closed minds and plugged ears. Ha ha, anybody wonder where Trump came from?

Follow the news. Why is it that the Republican presidential candidates keep attacking healthcare for people here in the United States? Rubio says that healthcare is job killing although there is no evidence of that. Why in heavens name do the Republicans who resent government intrusion go all out to deny healthcare to Americans who need it desperately at times and attack on women for example, and continues full fledge into making health choices for women. What gives these Republican presidential candidates any right to rule on the lives of us Americans?

Mitt Romney is a two-time loser. He doesn’t dare to run for president again. He could set a record and be a three-time loser for president. I don’t know why the RNC thinks he’s such a great person. He said last time he ran for president he didn’t care about the 47 percent and that’s what did him in. Not a very smart man.

Looking for somebody that gives guitar lessons at home, Waverly/Owego area. My number is 642-5089.

I watched that Republican side show on television last night. That’s exactly what it was, some sort of a side show. It was more like watching a bunch of third graders out on the playground arguing back and forth. These guys, I don’t know what’s wrong with them. They did not really address the issues. It really was not what I would call a debate where they discuss the issues. It’s almost as if these people are vying to get that liar Hillary elected because all they are doing is cutting their own throats. People are getting sick of this and they don’t want to hear anymore of it. Pick a guy and let him run. Romney, another guy who had to stick his nose in where it didn’t belong, was a loser and he’s still a loser. Why is he bothering? These people don’t have any idea of what’s going on in this country! If it continues down the road that it is now and if we get Hillary in there it will get even worse yet than it was with Obama. I don’t know what’s going on in this country. It’s almost as if it’s a lost cause. I don’t know.

~

I can describe Donald Trump in six words – A wonderful breath of fresh air.

~

A so called political reporter says a lot of things that are down right stupid. I wish they would cut it out.

~

The grate in front of CVS on Main Street needs to be fixed. Every time a vehicle goes over it, it makes an annoying clunk. I find that very annoying. I hope they fix it soon.

~

This is to the political reporter. You think you are being funny but after a while what you are saying is just plain stupid so please stop it already!

I was just wondering if anybody’s ever heard of a savory roasting pan. It’s an older pan and it’s oval shaped and it’s real heavy. I’ve inherited one and I don’t know how old it is or anything but I would like to know some more information about it if someone could enlighten me.

~

I’d like to make a comment about the Candor/Spencer sports merger. I’ve been a long time resident of Candor and I think both schools are making a big mistake. Especially the Candor residents, we are taxed enough and no matter what the paper says or the district says about it, the money has got to go up and I’m against it. I hope to God that somebody in his right mind in the school district decides this isn’t a good thing. The buses, the fuel, money, it’s all about the sports in Candor and Spencer. Please, don’t do it!

~

I’d like to make a comment about the Cal Harris situation. We tried him three times and now Kirk Martin wants to try him again for the fourth time, and since the taxpayers are picking the bill up why doesn’t Kirk Martin pick up his tab for trying him in the county. If we are paying him so much money to ride back and forth to Schoharie County, why doesn’t Kirk Martin pay for the trial instead of the taxpayers.

~

Hey, Tioga County, how about some encouragement for cleaning up our property; starting with the yard right in front of your house! The weather is nice, why not take this opportunity to go pick up the stuff that blows around from recycling on windy days and more importantly, let’s stop littering the community. Who doesn’t know nowadays that littering McDonalds bags and Wendy’s bags, specifically on West Beecher, Thorn Hollow and up on the hills above Glenmary, is bad for the environment. Let’s start modeling some pride in Tioga County and won’t you start with your own yard in front of your house? Pick up a piece of garbage, recycle a can or take some trash to the dump. We can do it Tioga County!

~

This is the old man on the hill. Shortly we will be going with these 4-day weeks, 10-hour days. Well if somebody was interested I could show you a film. If they get seven or eight hours a day, that’s doing good.

~

It’s bad enough we have to listen to Sean Hannity on the radio spinning his lies, now he’s telling people how they should vote! Can you believe that? He’s telling people how he thinks they should vote! What a crackpot!

~

I was wondering how long the Republican Party is going to let Mr. Ted Cruz keep running his illegal campaign. With all the issues about President Obama having to prove his citizenship and place of birth, we know Cruz was born in Canada and the constitution forbids him for even running for president. So why are the Republicans talking about this? This country is turning into a hypocrisy anymore, it’s ridiculous! If you elect a Republican president this country is going to go down hill so fast it’s going to make your head spin.

~

I’d like to comment on the renovations made on the outside of the Tom Ash Insurance business. It really looks nice and it really adds a lot to the center of the village.

~

Concerning a rather lengthy letter in last week’s Pennysaver by Bill Pletcher about a king and some wise men. I don’t get it. What’s the point?

~

The 2015 Phish music event at Watkins Glen this past August had a sales tax indication for the county of Schuyler that was $750,000, three quarters of a million dollars. I am wondering if it could be published what the Strawberry Festival does for the village of Owego. It seems to me it is expensive for the taxpayers and it costs the taxpayers but someone must have that sales tax figure; again, $750,000 in Watkins Glen. No, it wouldn’t be that big, but how big is the sales tax impact for the Village of Owego or Tioga County from the Strawberry Fest?

~

I was wondering if there is anyone that could dismantle a desk and relocate it. If there is they can respond to this column.

~

I’d like to know who’s job it is to be cleaning the catch basins along side the road, especially on Court Street near the Court House, it’s so plugged up I don’t see how it could work. I don’t know if it’s the village’s place or not. I was wondering if the street sweeper still comes out because there’s a bunch of old leaves on the side of the road where you park and every time it rains it just makes it worse. Maybe someone can get on this and get it cleaned up.

“This country has more than 150 agricultural universities. But every year, each churns out several hundred ‘educated’ unemployables, trained only in misguiding farmers and spreading ecological degradation. In all the six years a student spends for an M.Sc. in agriculture, the only goal is short-term – and narrowly perceived – ‘productivity’. For this, the farmer is urged to do and buy a hundred things. But not a thought is spared to what a farmer must never do so that the land remains unharmed for future generations and other creatures. It is time our people and government wake up to the realization that this industry-driven way of farming – promoted by our institutions – is inherently criminal and suicidal!” Bhaskar Save on the impact of the “green revolution” in India, which has resulted in 300,000 farmers committing suicide over the last 20 years. From the article “Poisoned, Marginalized, Bankrupt and Dead: The Bitter Fruits of the World Food Crisis” by Colin Todhunter.

Thank you to Anna D’Arcy, Newark Valley Senior Class President, for organizing an incredible floor hockey tournament at Newark Valley high school, on behalf of the Tioga United Way. Thanks also to Sherrill Ward, student council advisor, and Superintendent Ryan Dougherty for their support and encouragement. Thank you to the Owego Free Academy and Newark Valley students, faculty, staff and fans who competed and donated.

Hillary Clinton’s attempt to take down Bernie Sanders in Michigan by misrepresenting his position on the auto industry bailout failed miserably last Tuesday. This is the type of underhanded campaigning we’ve come to expect from the Clintons. Sanders favored helping our auto industry and voted for measures that would do so. But when the auto bailout was deliberately bundled with the huge Wall Street welfare package, Sanders could not support it. Sanders’ victory in Michigan indicates voters understand that the disastrous trade deals supported by the Clintons have caused great harm to working families across this country.

On the whole, I do not think our president is doing a good job of running our country. This being said, I do like the name Obamacare because he does care for the needy in this wonderful land of ours. The age-old Statue of Liberty does not say give me all your rich Aristocrats, it says give me your poor, your tired, and your hungry. Why should we say that if we do not mean it?

~

It’s a hoot watching Hillary, as on the town hall meeting tonight. If you have any knowledge of non-verbal communication, it’s so absolutely plain to see that she’s lying when confronted about her emails and whether they were marked classified or not. She lies, she’s angry, she distracts, she does absolutely everything possible to duck the issue, while seeming to answer – which she never does! She blows smoke, she distracts, she obfuscates!

The NYS Union of Teachers has put the full weight of their Union against the Dryden School District, which is trying to terminate an ineffective teacher. It will cost Dryden considerably. The OACSD Teachers Union has been in negotiations with our District for years now. What more do they want with the highest salaries and best compensation package in the Southern Tier. Let’s give our children the priority, not the endless demands of their union monopoly. Perhaps they could get a better job elsewhere if OACSD isn’t good enough. Support OACSD against NYSUT!
