Self-Defense for Women at Fay’s Fitness

Fay’s Fitness has a long history of teaching martial arts and self-defense to women in the area. Fay’s is now offering Self Defense 101 for Women. The class will meet on Saturday, Feb. 27 from 10 a.m. to noon. Fay’s Fitness is located at 41 Owego Rd. (corner of Rt. 96B and Simcoe Road) in Candor, N.Y.

This 2-hour seminar teaches the basics of self-defense, including the Four “A”s – Attitude, Awareness, Avoidance and Action. Participants will learn the basics of striking – when, where and how. Come prepared to hit something. Gloves and pads will be provided.

The class is being taught by Ron Fay, a 2nd Degree Black Belt in Taekwondo. Fay has taught Taekwondo in the area since 1991.

“My biggest challenge in teaching self-defense,” said Fay, “is overturning the attitude that ‘nothing is going to happen to me’. The common denominator with women in my class that have been attacked is that they never saw it coming.”

He added, “Self-defense training is not a ‘one and done’ thing. It should be looked at like continuing education similar to CPR training.”

Ladies age 11 and up are invited to participate. This is a great family activity for mothers, daughters, grandmothers, aunts, nieces, cousins and friends.

The cost is $30, payable at door at class. Advanced sign-up is required as limited space is available. Call 659-4818, email ron@faysfitness.com, or message at www.facebook.com/faysfitness to secure your spot. Bring clean sneakers (required) and wear comfortable clothing.
