Village of Waverly awarded $300,000 grant

The Tioga County Department of Economic Development and Planning is pleased to announce that the Village of Waverly has been awarded $300,000.00 in grant funding through the New York Main Street Program.

The New York Main Street program provides funding to assist New York’s communities with “Main Street” downtown revitalization efforts.

Building owners of mixed-use properties on Broad Street in Waverly (from Fulton Street to Pennsylvania Avenue) will be able to apply for these funds to complete interior and exterior renovation projects.

Eligible property owners will be invited to a public information meeting, where they will be able to find out more about this funding opportunity.

Teresa Saraceno, deputy director of Tioga County Economic Development and Planning, applied on behalf of the Village of Waverly, and was an instrumental part in securing these funds for the Village.

Saraceno will continue to work with the Village as the Program Administrator, throughout the course of these projects.

Included in the grant is a $15,000.00 Streetscape Enhancement, which will improve the aesthetics of the three block area on Broad Street, with such things as trees, planters, hanging baskets, directional signage and bike racks.

Similar grants have been awarded to the Village of Owego (2005 and 2010) and the Village of Nichols (2012).
