Caroline Town Board seeks to fill Councilmember, Advisory Committee Positions

The Caroline Town Board wishes to fill several vacancies as follows:

Councilmember – The Caroline Town Board has a vacancy for the unexpired term of Mark Witmer, who, as of Jan. 1, 2016 will be serving as Town Supervisor.

The Caroline Town Board is seeking applications from Caroline residents willing to serve as Councilmember for the months of February 2016 through December 2016. The salary for the position is $2,164 in 2016 and will be pro-rated to the actual start date. There will be a special election in the fall of 2016 for the remainder of the unexpired term (through Dec. 2017).

Applicants should be able to participate in two monthly evening board meetings (first Tuesday and second Wednesday of each month starting at 7 p.m.), as well as assume responsibility for one or more committee assignments. Time commitment varies, but averages ten to 15 hours per month.

Planning Board – The Planning Board advises the Town Board on planning related issues such as development and land use in the Town of Caroline, and is responsible for updating the Town’s Comprehensive Plan.

This volunteer position is for a three-year term. Four hours of training per year are required.

The committee meets monthly on the second Thursday of each month at 6:30 p.m.

Subdivision Review Board – The Subdivision Review Board is tasked with reviewing and approving (with or without conditions) any projects that qualify as subdivisions or any projects that require site plan review. This review board also reviews any appeals of determinations by the Building Code Officer with regards to hazardous buildings and flood plain.

This volunteer position is for a four-year term. Four hours of training per year are required.

The Subdivision Review Board meets as needed when sub-division plans are in need of review.

Applicants should plan to attend the Feb. 2 Town Board meeting at 7 p.m. to be interviewed by the board. The Board will vote on applicants at the Feb. 10 meeting.

Applicants for the Councilmember position are asked to attend this meeting to await the board’s decision and begin serving that evening if chosen.
