Catatonk Valley Wood Carvers to host 25th Annual Show and Sale

The Catatonk Valley Wood Carvers aren’t your old-fashioned grandpa’s sitting on the porch whittling group of wood carvers. Indeed! They vary in age, and many are world famous, have won awards, and spend hours perfecting their craft. Their art takes on many forms, some of them very detailed, all colorful and intriguing.

But one has to see these carvings and talk to the carvers themselves to understand and appreciate their passion for carving. Just such an opportunity is once again coming your way. The 25th Annual Catatonk Valley Wood Carvers’ Show and Sale is the main stop on the Candor Fall Festival of Events in October.

This year’s major raffle is a hand-carved wooden chest filled with a menagerie of hand-carved, hand-painted wooden Christmas ornaments, lovingly designed and produced by local carvers. There are other donated handcrafted items to be raffled (Sunday at 5 p.m.), along with various demonstrations throughout the two-day event planned for Oct. 10 and 11 at the Candor Fire Hall on Route 96 in Candor.

Doors are open between 10 a.m. and 5 p.m., and there is no admission fee, although those wishing to take home a carving from one of the many vendors may purchase or commission one of their choosing.

The Fire Department/Auxiliary will have plenty of food and refreshment for purchase. Prepare to spend time browsing, chatting, and enjoying the best of the best the Catatonk Valley Wood Carvers have to offer.
