Guthrie sponsors ‘Walk From Obesity’ on September 26

Guthrie’s Weight Loss Center is sponsoring a local Walk From Obesity, set for Saturday, Sept. 26 at 9 a.m. at Round Top Park in Athens, Pa.

“While advances have been made in the prevention and treatment of obesity, more remains to be done. It is estimated that nearly 93 million Americans are affected by obesity and that number is predicted to climb to 120 million in the next five years,” stated Dr. Verlyn Warrington, Medical Bariatrician at the Guthrie Weight Loss Center

She added, “I am sure everyone has a family member that has, in some way, been affected by obesity-related illnesses. The Walk from Obesity combines an enjoyable event with the potential to raise money so we can fight the obesity epidemic.”

The walk will be the centerpiece of the day, which will include education on healthy lifestyles and a celebration for Guthrie patients that have fought the battle against obesity. The walk path will be a 1/3-mile loop on a flat road surface surrounded by scenic woods. Participants are encouraged to walk as little or as much as they want.

The funds raised support both the American Society of Metabolic and Bariatric Surgery Foundation and the Obesity Action Coalition. Registration is $25 before the event and $35 by check on the day of the event.

You can pre-register online. For more information, or to register a team, visit www.walkfromobesity.com or call Mary Hutz at (570) 887-3921.
