Norm Westervelt, earlier this year, collected donations of bicycles and cleaned them up for Tioga County Rural Ministries. According to Rural Ministries, through a lottery system the children’s bicycles were distributed to children. Norm is once again collecting bicycles for another give-away. If you have any children’s bicycles to donate, call Norm Westervelt at (607) 687-2616.

Whoops! Did I just see a Freudian slip? Was Hillary modeling for orange (as in a prison jump suit) by wearing an orange pantsuit? Might she know what her future holds?

~

Tappan Spaulding Memorial Library has received a gift of 100 new children’s books! The Brownstone Book Fund, a private foundation, donated the books to help foster early reading, a love of books and to encourage parents and children to read together. Come to Newark Valley to enjoy their generous gift.

Come to the Special Village Board meeting on Aug. 31 and watch the Mayor (who claims he backs the Owego Fire Department) as he votes against the proposition to allow the Owego Fire Department to form its own district. He will tell everyone that he wants to keep the Fire Department under Village control, but come elections in May (if he wins) and gets another seat on the Village Board, he will give the Village to the Town. Then watch your taxes soar. The meeting will be held at the Hubbard Auditorium at 7 p.m.

~

So the Village of Owego Fire Department wants to form a fire district. What fools would support such a scheme? Maybe those who want taxes to go up? Guaranteed they will. Village Board, please do not let this happen. The fire department should not have taxing authority, ever.

I am responding to the comment made last week concerning Planned Parenthood as being a “positive” entity. I believe this person has to be some sort of a feeble and heartless individual. Believing this company can do “right” is nothing less than barbaric. I cannot imagine keeping some aborted babies alive until their hearts are cut out. Would this act be different if the child was “actually” born and wanted? Bit by bit we are, as a nation, slowly crucifying our children and losing the hand of protection from God. This nation will fall and all remaining people will perish for lack of knowledge unless we wake up and hear the truth and fight for justice. If you can believe that killing is right, then there is little hope that we can ever recover. The warnings are all around us, and yet, we see little hope that things will get better unless we change our hearts and minds.

A great big thank you to the road crews that have torn up Fred Catlin Road and Catlin Hill Road. The giant pothole right down the middle of the entire road is wonderful. After all, good suspension and tires are overrated. The street has been practically impassable for weeks. Are there any plans on making it drivable? One more thing, we have some car repair bills that are directly related to your lack of work, who shall we send the bill to? In this case, yes, please quit your day job!

Throughout our country’s history, about one million of our brave men have given their lives to keep our country united, safe and free. So illegal aliens are stealing the safety and freedom our men have shed their blood for. What illegals should do is fix their own damn country! Freedom is not free!

You really have to be careful of what you buy these days. A national name of Fig Newton’s now sells a box that looks the same but the label says they are REAL FRUIT NEWTON’S. They don’t taste anything like fig bars!

I do not know if we can build a better society. I do not even know if we will survive as a species. But I know these corporate forces have us by the throat. And they have my children by the throat. I do not fight fascists because I will win. I fight fascists because they are fascists. And this is a fight that in the face of the overwhelming forces against us requires us to embrace this sublime madness, to find in acts of rebellion the embers of life, an intrinsic meaning that lies outside of certain success. It is to at once grasp reality and then refuse to allow this reality to paralyze us. It is, and I say this to people of all creeds or no creeds, to make an absurd leap of faith, to believe, despite all empirical evidence around us, that good always draws to it the good, that the fight for life always goes somewhere – we do not know where; the Buddhists call it karma – and in these acts we sustain our belief in a better world, even if we cannot see one emerging around us. For 80 years, through good times and bad, Social Security has paid out every benefit owed to every eligible American in full and on time. And the message we need the American people to get is that Social Security is not going broke. It has a $2.8 trillion surplus, can pay out every benefit owed to every eligible American for the next 19 years and approximately 80 percent of benefits owed after that if no action is taken. And when we finally ask the wealthy to start paying their fair share, we cannot only extend the lifespan of the Social Security trust fund; we can increase benefits for the majority of Americans.

In reference to the person from Spencer looking for a trustworthy mechanic, look no further than Marty at Spencer Auto supply and hardware, but don’t let the hardware fool you, because their mostly a full service diagnostic and repair shop, one of the best in our area! When one is driving east on Route 434 towards Apalachin and turns onto Pennsylvania Avenue, please note that the shoulder of the road is NOT a turning lane. There is just one lane for straight as well as making a right hand turn. I’ve come close to being hit a couple of times due to drivers who have used the shoulder as a turning lane while I am turning onto Pennsylvania Avenue. Maybe we need to go to the DMV and get a drivers manual and read it.

I was shocked to read in the Owego Pennysaver how little we pay our Owego Apalachin Central School District’s Superintendent. I expected it to be a competitive salary that would be double what it is or more. In all honesty, we should all be sending him a “Thank You” letter for taking on so much responsibility and doing such an outstanding job on such a modest salary. A special “Thank You,” Dr. Bill Russell.

I think parents who have their children opt out of class, designed to decide whether or the not teachers are any good should explain to their kids in real life when they face things, they can’t just opt out.

The subject right now is what happens when a nation turns it’s back on God, all you have to do and look out or turn on your weather channel and you’ll find out the United States of America is evil. This is actually a real fight between good and evil that has infiltrated our government, our churches, and our schools. Where were you? Take a good look in the mirror and look into your own eyes while you are looking into the face of God. You and I were put here to be Christian Soldiers, to protect our faith, to protect our bill of rights, to protect our constitution, to protect our country.

I am right here from Tioga County, right here from Owego, N.Y. I had recently took some clothing and stuff to a local charity and I asked them if I could pick up bread and they said you don’t get food from this place you are not allowed to get bread. You have to go to the place where you pick up your food. I don’t understand this, I don’t know why. It’s always been you could pick up bread whenever you wanted to. This confuses me, what is going on here?

Pair of girls’ black-rimmed glasses was found at the picnic on Saturday. If you belong to these glasses you may claim them at the VFW in Owego. Their number is 687-1371.

This message is for the idiot that likes to throw their garbage in my yard. It’s been happening 15 times so far this summer. My property is on Crandall Road in Barton, N.Y. You will be caught on camera. I have your fingerprints on the slop that you have thrown in my yard and it’s happed about 15 times. You will be caught and charged with that account and if the judge decides to charge you $100 per count your wallet ought to be lightened by the neighborhood of about $2,000. So if you want to get caught just keep up your stupid work. You have no respect for property of others; throw it on your own property or yard.

As usual the pro-abortion buffoons say that fetal tissue is of great value to medical research. Just tell me one major medical advancement that was made by killing and dismembering fetuses. Over two years ago the scientific community agreed that adult tissue could be used just as effectively. Liberals lie to protect profits derived from their heinous war on fetuses.

Does anyone is Berkshire know of a safe place for community members to walk and get exercise?

Six or seven years ago I remember reading an article in the Binghamton paper that says global warming could cause a new ice age. I thought that was pretty dumb but now it seems to be coming true. I heard on the weather channel that winters are getting worse up north because of the open water and they are studying the amount of snow in Northern Russia. Maybe we should stop worrying about stopping global warming, which we can’t do, and start worrying about what we are going to do with the snow.

I read in this week’s Pennysaver a comment about the cemeteries on Route 96, and that they looked terrible. They wanted to know who did the cemeteries. I lived here over 50 years and I can’t see that there is anything wrong with our cemetery. I don’t know which one they are talking about so maybe he should check it out. I know our cemetery looks good.

Follow the news. Have you listened carefully to the carnival clown group of presidential candidates and that the Republican Party is trying once again to kill Social Security? They want to deprive us of the money at any cost. First they want to raise the retirement age to 70 or more. Then they want to have a voucher system. Then they want to scale back the benefits for those who are truly needy. Give me a break! Bush tried to privatize Social Security; these buffoons are going to try once again. Don’t ever vote for anything other than your best judgment. Do you want to lose Social Security? Do you want your family members to lose Social Security? Vote the bums out!

I’m calling for the person who has the patio set for free. Please give Cindy a call at 349-5603. I would love to have the patio set! I would also like to get the lady’s number; I think it is Jean, who fixes clothing.

This is in response to the comment last week about people signing their homes over to their children in case they have to go into a nursing home in the future, but they still claim the New York State Star exemption. Well, the person needs to call and see what the rules are for that because you have to have it as your main residency in order to get the Star program. If the parents aren’t still living there they can’t get the Star program and if someone has their children living there and they’ve gone into the nursing home and such then they just have to calmly call the town clerk and let them know that. Simple as that, the assessor and town clerk in their town. It’s that easy. So don’t get upset about it until you check the rules. I know – I’m there.

The latest poll shows that 68 percent of American voters would not elect Obama again. Guess what, buffoons; it’s too late now. The immense damage to the U.S. has already been done by a dumbed down electorate who bought a childish hope and change campaign slogan. We need a conservative political outsider to try and reverse and clean up decades of Socialist Marxist Democrat political claptrap shoved down our throats and abetted by the old guard, go along, get along Republicans.

~

The TV journalists think that they know what we, the people, want for President for 2016. The majority of the Republicans running are very poor candidates. Donald Trump by far is the best candidate running.

Illegal immigrants to get citizenship in the U.S. should be made to serve a six-year obligation in the U.S. military. During the Vietnam War our soldiers were made to do this. This includes all healthy men and women.

Anybody out there who may have an abundance of cucumbers for pickling, I would appreciate a call. I am also looking for some beets for pickling. Call 659-3871, it would be much appreciated and they would be put to good use.

Free picnic table, hammock, chaise lounge and camping port-a potty. Call (607) 625-2971.

To the inconsiderate Apalachin Library thief, it’s too bad your moral character isn’t on par with your IQ, “not everyone reads Michael Pollan”. What misguided sense of entitlement to damage a less than year old library book by ripping out 10 pages to get two recipes? Are you so special that other peoples’ enjoyment of the whole book doesn’t matter or even the fact that it doesn’t belong to you. Even children can be taught to respect books and you’re obviously old enough to
