Plan to spend Saturday, July 25 at the Berkshire Blueberries and Books Festival Route 38 at the corner of Jewett Hill Road, 9 a.m. to 5 p.m., rain or shine. Start your day with blueberry pancakes or crepes served 9 to 11 a.m. in the Fire Station by Bob Whirl and library volunteers.
Then check out the over 26 vendor, craft, and information booths displaying a variety from antiques and collectables to hand loomed rugs and, of course, blueberries. Some of the vendors and crafts on-hand include the Richford Quilting Club, Tastefully Simple, George’s Florist, Pink Zebra Candles, A Bit of That & This Shop, Faerie Magic Yarns, and Fidelis Care.
Many community groups also plan booths to include the Berkshire Community Association, Northern Tioga Neighbors Network, the Berkshire History Buffs, Tioga County Office for the Aging, Richford Congregational Church Gems and Rangers, Tioga Co. 4-H Clubs, and Cornell Co-operative Extension.
In the Community Hall, check out your favorite authors at the book sale upstairs and search for useful and intriguing finds at the Trash and Treasures sale downstairs. Listen to talented young musicians. From 11 a.m. to 3 p.m., meet local author, M. L. Stoughton and hear her experience of writing her new young adult fantasy, Pleasantwick.
Take time to visit the Berkshire History Museum, on the second floor of the library, from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. Downstairs, Bob Connelly will be appraising antiques in the library meeting room starting at noon, suggested donation of $5 and item will benefit the library.
A chicken barbecue, prepared by Berkshire Fire Department volunteers will be served at noon. Burgers and hot dogs will be offered as well.
While in the Fire Station, take a chance on one of the 40 raffle baskets and gift certificates. Donation for raffle tickets is 1 for $1, 6 for $5, or 12 for $10 to benefit the Berkshire Free Library, which serves the Berkshire and Richford communities.
Other activities during the day include games and activities for children, local music talent at the gazebo, a display of classic cars, and a visit by Miss Blueberry.
Before you leave, of course, select from the blueberry baked goods for a treat to enjoy at home.
