Red Cross hosts volunteer event June 2 in Endicott

The Southern Tier Chapter of the American Red Cross is hosting a Volunteer Enrollment event for residents of Broome, Chenango and Tioga counties from 5:30 to 7 p.m. on Tuesday, June 2, at the Red Cross office at 620 E. Main St., Endicott.

The event is open to anyone interested in learning about the ways in which the Red Cross supports Southern Tier residents. Red Cross staff members and current volunteers will be available to discuss volunteer opportunities in several lines of service: Disaster Services, Blood Services, Service to the Armed Forces, and Health and Safety Services.

The Red Cross is also searching for volunteers to join its Disaster Action team (DAT), which responds to local emergencies and large nationwide disasters. Locally, DAT volunteers respond to emergencies such as house fires, floods, transportation accidents and natural disasters. Relief efforts range from providing food and shelter to offering emotional support to the victims.

The Red Cross invites residents to attend the event and consider volunteering regardless of their experience levels. While needs may vary based on current events, the Red Cross will do its best to accommodate everyone’s desire to get involved.

“The Red Cross is always looking for people with various backgrounds, talents, and skill levels to join our team,” said Colleen McCabe, volunteer specialist for the Southern Tier Chapter.

McCabe added, “Volunteers play a crucial role in ensuring that the Red Cross delivers its services in our communities. Please join us to learn more about how you can serve your community as a Red Cross volunteer.”

To RSVP to the June 2 event or for more information, contact McCabe at colleen.mccabe@redcross.org or (607) 785-7207. RSVP in case the event is postponed due to inclement weather.
