Alpha Brass Band, an audacious and innovative musical act, will help ring in the spring in downtown Owego with a show on May 21 at the Parkview Hotel, 145 Front St. starting at 6:30 p.m.
The band, created and led by former NYC R&B saxman Bobby Watts, a.k.a. Rob Weinberger, performs New Orleans funky street music from artists like Rebirth, Dirty Dozen, Dr. John, and the Meters, as well as covers from acts as diverse as Adele and Led Zeppelin, and some original tunes.
Alpha Brass Band features notable area musicians Dennis Martin (trombone), Vic Merrill (trumpet), Tim Zapach (sousaphone), Rob Cotton (snare), and Larry Ricciardi (bass drum). Together, they create a rousing, raucous explosion of sound.
Alpha Brass has performed at parades, regional festivals including the Grassroots sponsored Sustainability Fair in Owego last summer, Halloween parties, even a few traditional New Orleans styled funerals. The band recently recorded an original tune on the compilation CD, Binghamton Music Volume 1.
