Faces of Margraten and request

Faces of Margraten and request Jim Raftis Sr. recently received a request from Erwin Flohr, a volunteer overseas who decorates veteran graves in Margraten. The following is the letter:

Dear Mister Raftis,

Today I went to the cemetery in Margraten to look at the project, Faces of Margraten. It was beautiful and more than 3,000 pictures were provided to remember the brave men who rest there or have their names on the walls of the missing.

In these pictures you will see Glenn A. Warner’s grave where I put a rose and where you can see the picture I sent in for the project. Could you forward this to Elaine Kravec? I will send her a letter and pictures later after Memorial Day weekend.

Faces of Margraten and requestI’m sorry that it didn’t work out to get pictures of Edward W. Whalen, Richard A. Hoyt and Walter R. Magee. But it’s not too late and pictures and stories can always be provided for future use.

Then I have a personal request. Each day there are less veterans of WWII. I know you have connections with a lot of veterans. Is it possible that you can ask the WWII veterans you know to write down their names or signature with some kind of message for me? This is to keep their names alive for me from a special community.

If it doesn’t work out, I understand it might be something difficult.

All the best,

Erwin Flohr
