Volunteers needed to help cleanup Tioga’s streams

It’s that time again; time to help cleanup Tioga County’s Streams. May 16 thru May 24, the Tioga County Water Coordinating Committee will be holding their 15th annual stream cleanup. If you are interested in cleaning up your environment or improving your community, then here is your chance.

All you need to do is register with the Tioga County Soil and Water Conservation District (SWCD). If you decide to volunteer you can select any stream within the County to cleanup or they will assign you a location. Trash bags and gifts will be provided to all participants who help clean up area streams.

This year they want to say a special thank you to the long time sponsors of the event, because without their support this event would not be possible.

Sponsors include Best Buy, CNYOG, Hiawatha Island Boat Club, Jouchum Logging, Kenny Construction, Mead Farm, NYSDOT, Owego Kiwanis, Taylor Garbage Service, Tioga State Bank, the Town of Owego, and Wagner Lumber Company.

If you are interested in registering a group for this year’s stream cleanup program, contact the Soil and Water Conservation District at (607) 687-3553 or stop by their office Monday through Friday from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. at 183 Corporate Dr. in Owego.

You can also register online at www.tiogacountyny.com/. The registration deadline is Friday, May 8.
