Guthrie Robert Packer Hospital in Sayre, Pa. recently celebrated its 130th birthday. The hospital is the oldest in the region, and has grown from a single building which treated 34 patients in its first year to a hospital system with over 1,000,000 patient visits annually.

To commemorate the occasion, Guthrie Robert Packer Hospital hosted a birthday celebration. Marie Droege, president of Guthrie Robert Packer Hospital and other staff and leaders from across the hospital, attended the event.

Marie Droege stated, “Guthrie is proud to be able to celebrate this milestone in our history. When the Packer family donated their family mansion to the town of Sayre in 1885 to be used as a hospital for rail workers, they helped create a lasting legacy that has supported our community for 130 years.”

She added, “The original Packer mansion was just bricks and mortar, but over the years health professionals of all backgrounds have contributed to making Guthrie a multi-specialty health care system which serves over 200,000 patients across 11 counties in the Twin Tiers. We are very proud of our distinguished history, but continue to look to the future. We believe that our patients and community have the right to good health, and we will work together as a team and in partnership with our patients to deliver early interventions and excellent clinical care to help make that a reality.”
