Fact or rumor, you decide

Dear Editor,

Facts & rumors – you decide.

Fact. The Owego Police Department is a discussion that pops up every few years. Why? Because there have been ongoing internal issues at OPD and the current Mayor, previous Mayors and Trustees have not been willing to address the problems.

The current Trustees of A Positive Change Party have said enough is enough. Let’s study the problems and look for solutions – not push it off for future boards to deal with. Not a popular stance, but it is the responsible thing to do.

Rumor: The Trustees want to abolish OPD.

Fact: The only ones that have been saying this is the Mayor, his party and a group of individuals that are more interested in creating conflict instead of looking for solutions to the OPD problems.

Fact: A Positive Change Party Trustees are gathering facts and looking at all the possible solutions and alternatives. These will be presented to all Village residents.

As a Village taxpayer, I want the Board to be looking at ways to increase effective efficiency in all Village departments and find solutions to the problems – not continue with the status quo and continue to push it off into the future. Instead of taking the path of least resistance as former Boards have, the current Trustees are actually looking out for the best interest of taxpayers. It is how the OFD issues were addressed and allowing the Owego Fire Department to become even better and stronger.

Why is there such a resistance by the Mayor and his party to research solutions to OPD? I guess it’s easier to come up with clever campaign slogans than to actually address the problems that need to be solved in the Village.

Sincerely,

Lisa L. Curatolo

Village of Owego Trustee Candidate
