Arrests made in relation to Citgo and Barleycorn robberies in Owego

The Tioga County Sheriff’s Office Criminal Investigation Division reports the arrest of a second suspect in connection with the robbery that occurred at the Citgo Gas Station on W. Main Street in the Village of Owego on Jan. 12. Investigators apprehended Herbert W. Truesdail, age 30 of 32 Spaulding Hill Rd., Owego, N.Y. on Jan. 13.

According to the Tioga County Sheriff’s Office, Herbert W. Truesdail was charged with Burglary 1st, a class B Felony, and was committed to the Tioga County Jail on no bail, by Town of Owego Justice, Patrick Hogan.

Sheriff Deputies responding to the initial 911 call of the robbery on Jan. 12 apprehended Jeffrey B. Whitmore after a brief foot chase. Jeffrey B. Whitmore, age 29 of 6198 State Route 17C, Endicott, N.Y. was charged with Robbery 1st, Burglary 1st, and Kidnapping 2nd – all Class B Felonies. Jeffrey B. Whitmore was remanded to the Tioga County Jail on no bail by Justice Patrick Hogan.

Investigators say that Jeffrey B. Whitmore forced his way into the residence of a Citgo Gas Station employee on Ivory Foster Road in the Town of Owego and kidnapped three occupants.

According to the sheriff’s report, Jeffrey B. Whitmore forced his victims to take him to the Citgo Station on W. Main Street in the Village of Owego. While at the Station, Jeffrey B. Whitmore took an undisclosed amount of currency, and fled on foot. Tioga County Sheriff Deputies apprehended Jeffrey B. Whitmore after a brief foot chase.

In an unrelated case, Investigators have also filed charges on Jeffrey B. Whitmore and Herbert Truesdail in connection with a strong-armed robbery that occurred at the John Barleycorn Tavern on Front Street in the Village of Owego, N.Y. on Dec. 24, 2014.

Both Jeffrey B. Whitmore and Herbert Truesdail were charged with Robbery 3rd and Burglary 3rd, Class D Felonies. Both suspects were arraigned before Village of Owego Justice, David Boland and were committed to the Tioga County Jail on these charges in lieu of $150,000 cash bail or $250,000 bond. Jeffrey B. Whitmore and Herbert Truesdail are scheduled to reappear in the Village of Owego Court on Jan. 20, 2015 at 10:30 a.m.
