The Nichols Fire Department brought a decorated truck to Tioga Downs on Saturday for the “Lighted” tractor parade. The fire truck placed third, and was awarded $200 and a trophy. Singing Christmas trees, located near the entrance of the casino, are part of Winterfest, which kicked off on Nov. 28 and will run until Jan.3 during the weekends.

On Saturday, Dec. 13, guests gathered at Tioga Downs Casino in Nichols, N.Y. to celebrate Winterfest, and to witness the first ever “Lighted” Tractor Parade that took place on the track at the Nichols, N.Y. facility on River Road. Participating were decorated wagons, tractors, and the Nichols Fire Department truck.

The parade began at 7 p.m. on the track as a part of the Winterfest celebration, and the public was able to attend for free.

Prizes were awarded for first, second, and third best parade vehicles with awards being $500 in cash for first place, $300 in cash for second place, and $200 in cash for third place. Winners also received trophies.

Winners included Dave Turner of Wysox, Pa. with his lighted gingerbread display. Turner won first place, earning $500 and a trophy.

Second place went to Tioga County 4H members for their lighted wagon. They won second place, and were awarded $300 and a trophy.

Placing third was the Nichols Fire Department, with their lighted truck that included a lit up Christmas tree illuminating the front of the vehicle. The department’s display was awarded $200 and a trophy.

Receiving $100 and and fourth place for their display was Tom McNamara from Johnson City, N.Y. who brought a lighted farm tractor that included lighting around the wheels as well. The tractor was a 1952 Massey-Harris Model Pony Tractor.

Mascots, to include “Blade”, the Elmira Jackals Mascot, also road in a lighted wagon during the parade, as well as the Sheriff’s Department who led the procession around the track at Tioga Downs.

Guests that arrived were able to enjoy the lighted display, as well as other activities such as the light show being offered during Winterfest at Tioga Downs.

Winterfest is open through Jan. 3 and there is no cost to attend. Winterfest is running Fridays, Saturdays and Sundays from 5 to 9 p.m., and on Monday, Dec. 29; Tuesday, Dec. 30; and Wednesday, Dec. 31 from 8 p.m. until midnight. Winterfest will not take place on Wednesday, Dec. 24; Thursday, Dec. 25; and Thursday, Jan. 1.
