Congratulations to Charles Olmstead, Jim Morris, and Jason Weaver for successfully completing Fire Officer I. This New York State Fire Academy leadership course was held at the Montour Falls facility and required a full six-day investment or 60 hours.
Other members of the county, including several members from Apalachin and Spencer Fire Departments, all represented in the photo, joined Owego at the academy.
This course was the first in the Fire Officer Series and covers general leadership topics including company officer roles, fire department organization, leadership, supervision, budgeting and fire department communications. The course also provided direct scene-management training including the company officer’s role in safety, size-up, strategy and tactics.
Operational management topics unique to the fire service were also covered with topics like error management and human factors, safety initiatives, group dynamics, pre-incident planning, fire inspection practices, information management, community relations and customer service, and labor relations.
The community appreciates their dedication to the fire department and the community as a whole!
