Apalachin Library celebrates a summer of learning, fun, and community

APALACHIN — The Apalachin Library celebrated another successful summer reading season filled with creativity, learning, exploration, and fun for children and families throughout the community. This year’s theme was “Unearth a Story.”

The summer’s programs offered something for everyone. Vanessa taught young artists a seahorse painting class, while Harry Potter fans gathered for a magical Harry Potter Birthday Party. Families also enjoyed special Family Nights featuring fascinating guests, including a paleontologist, a bug expert, and a reptile expert, who brought their areas of expertise to life through engaging performances.

Other popular programs included an American Girl program featuring Felicity, a bi-monthly Pokémon Club, and exciting STEAM Nights, which encouraged children to explore science, technology, engineering, art, and mathematics through hands-on activities.

The library also said a heartfelt farewell to Wendy, who retired on Aug. 21 after 11 years of dedicated service to the Apalachin Library. During her time at the library, Wendy made a lasting impact on the community through her work with Storytime and many other programs. She also introduced Senior First Fridays, creating a welcoming opportunity for older adults to gather, socialize, and enjoy programs at the library.

“Wendy gave so much to the Apalachin Library and to the people we serve,” Director Tracy Savard said. “Her creativity, dedication, and warmth will be greatly missed. We are incredibly grateful for her 11 years of service and for the many wonderful programs and memories she created.” Melissa will be taking over Storytime (Tuesdays and Thursdays at 10:30 a.m.) beginning Sept. 8.
