Nanticoke Valley Historical Society to host ‘History in the Headstones’ on August 13

The Nanticoke Valley Historical Society of Maine, N.Y. is hosting ‘History in the Headstones’, a community event, in the Town of Maine on Sunday, Aug. 13 at 3 p.m.  

As a continuation of the celebration of the Town of Maine’s 175th Anniversary, the Nanticoke Valley Historical Society will present this walking tour at the Maine Cemetery, located 1-mile south of the Town of Maine on Route 26.

The walking tour of the cemetery will feature local actors portraying the following former citizens, offering a perspective of life during those times. They include Thomas Marean (1753-1829), Esther Patterson Marean (1756-1832), Levi Henry Baldwin (1832-1907), Gardner Sawin Bowers (1802-1882), Issac and Charles Lamb (1813-1907), and Lyman Pollard (1809-1907). 

This event is free and open to the public. It is intended to take place rain or shine; however, last minute updates will be posted at www.nanticokevalleyhistoricalsociety.com and on their Facebook page.
