Concerts in the Park kicks off on Wednesday

Beginning on Wednesday, July 3, Tioga Arts Council (TAC) will kick off its six-part summer Concerts in the Park series. Every Wednesday night at Hickories Park in Owego, the community can enjoy free live music!

On July 3, from 7:30 to 9:30 p.m., The Kirby Band of Nichols will kick off the Concerts in the Park season and play music from big bands to the big screen. Stay after the concert for fireworks at 9:30 p.m.!

On July 10, from 7 to 9 p.m., KidBess and The Magic Ring will take the stage. The smoky textures of Bess Greenberg’s haunting poetic vocals are reinforced with infectious groove and harmonics that swell with a unified conviction. Where psychedelic rock meets singer songwriter and grunge meets world beat, KidBess and The Magic Ring are ”moving and mesmerizing”.

On July 17, from 7 to 9 p.m., The Jazz Happens Band will perform. It don’t mean a thing, if it ain’t got that swing. The Jazz Happens Band plays traditional / authentic Dixieland jazz. The seven-piece group has played together since 2005 and is located in Central New York.

On July 24, from 7 to 9 p.m., Mike Davis & The Laughing Buddha Episodes will entertain guests. “The Laughing Buddha Episodes are the garden of my soul in music form.” With Mike at the helm and his flowing cast of LBE Family will offer the “infinite smorgasbord of the yet- manifested.”

On July 31, from 7 to 9 p.m., enjoy music from Next to Kin. Next to Kin will play a wide array of originals and covers. This band, which is truly a “family affair” and hails from Owego, will have a little something for everybody!

On Aug. 7, from 7 to 9 p.m., The Basin Street Jazz Band will close out the Concerts in the Park series with a BANG. Bring your lawn chairs and a picnic.

Concerts in the Park are free and sponsored, in part, by the Town of Owego. In the event of inclement weather, all concerts will move to the Owego Elks Lodge at 223 Front St. in Owego. This decision will be made on the day of the event and posted on TAC’s website,
