Twenty Tioga County 4-H Market Animal Science members brought their quality-raised animals to the 51st annual 4-H Livestock Sale held during the recent Tioga County Fair. The 4-H’ers presented their animals in shows during the week, met with prospective buyers, and then sold the animals for a sale total of $23,425.50.

The grand champion market steer raised by Alysa Williams, Animal Aholics 4-H Club, weighed 1,335 lbs., and was purchased by Bryan’s Meat Cutting, Milan, Pa. for $3.20 per pound.  

The reserve grand champion market steer raised by Gavin Lindhorst, Animal Aholics 4-H Club, weighed 1,134 lbs., and was purchased by Ward & Van Scoy, Inc. of Owego, N.Y. for $2.55 per pound.

The breeder of the grand champion market steer was Bryan’s Family Farm, East Smithfield, Pa. Three market steers sold for an average of $2.90 per pound.

The grand champion market hog raised by Ryan Huizinga, Flora & Fauna Friends 4-H Club, weighed 250 lbs., and was purchased by Home Central os Owego, N.Y. for $5.25 per pound.  

The reserve grand champion market hog raised by Tammy Perrotta, Farm Fanatics 4-H Club, weighed 285 lbs., and was purchased by Ralph Porter, Waverly, N.Y. for $3.50 per pound.  

The breeder of the grand champion market hog was Luke Nichols, East Smithfield, Pa. 

Eighteen market hogs sold for an average of $2.63 per pound.

The grand champion market lamb raised by Ryan Huizinga, Flora & Fauna Friends 4-H Club, weighed 109 lbs., and was purchased by Home Central of Owego, N.Y. for $2.75 per pound.  

The reserve grand champion market lamb was raised by Kyle Jantz, Flora & Fauna Friends 4-H Club, weighed 90 lbs., and was purchased by Patrick Ballester of Candor, N.Y. for $2.75 per pound.  

Seven lambs sold for an average of $3.16 per pound.  

The breeder of the grand champion market lamb was Dr. Chuck Guard, DVM, Lansing, N.Y.

The grand champion market goat raised by Rachel Brennan, All Over Clover Kids 4-H Club, weighed 90 lbs., and was purchased by Wyalusing Livestock, Wyalusing, Pa. for $2.60 per pound.  

The reserve grand champion market goat was raised by Rosie Hines, All Over Clover Kids 4-H Club, weighed 54 lbs., and was purchased by Hottle Livestock, Rome, Pa. for $2.00 per pound.  

Two goats sold for an average of $2.38 per pound.  

The breeder of the grand champion market goat was Our 5 Acre Homestead, Michelle Kline, Berkshire, N.Y.

The grand champion meat bird pen was raised by Jacob Guiles, Flora & Fauna Friends 4-H Club, and held four birds and was purchased by Don Light Farrier Service of Binghamton, N.Y. for $320.

The reserve grand champion meat bird pen, holding five birds, was raised by Madison Peabody, Paws to Think 4-H Club, and was purchased by Johnson Pools of Owego, N.Y. for $225.  

Twenty-one meat birds sold for an average of $4.57 per pound.

The grand champion meat rabbit pen was raised by Madison Peabody, Paws to Think 4-H Club, and was purchased by Michele Kline, Berkshire, N.Y. for $35. 

Thank you to Farmer Brown’s, in Apalachin, N.Y. for donating the hanging baskets that were auctioned off to support 4-H programming, and to Goodrich Auction Service, Inc. for all they do to support the 4-H Program.
