Are you looking for a fun and educational Spring Break opportunity for your kids? The Binghamton Zoo is offering Spring Break Zoo School during the Binghamton City School District’s spring break – April 2 through April 6.

Kids will learn about animals that spend time bumming the beaches, navigating winding rivers and flying through tropical rainforests, all without leaving town. Guests will be seeing animals at the zoo, playing games, making crafts to bring home and meeting new friends.

Spring Break Zoo School will be split into two sections – April 2-3 will be for children aged five to seven who are currently in school (no pre-Kindergarten, please). April 4-6 will be for youth aged eight to 13. Zoo School will be held from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. with a supervised lunch break.

On April 2 and April 3, children can also be registered for half-day sessions, 9 a.m. to noon and 1 to 4 p.m. with each session featuring different activities.

Registration is required for each day your child is attending Spring Break Zoo School. Full day registration is $30.00 for zoo members and $40.00 for non-members. Half-day registration is $15.00 for zoo members and $20.00 for non-members. Before and after care is available for up to 30 minutes at $8.00 per 30-minute time block.

Registration is available online now at www.rossparkzoo.com or by calling the Education Department at (607) 724-5461 x235. Need more information? Contact Ian Jensen at ijensen@rossparkzoo.com

The Binghamton Zoo is also offering three summer internships to qualified college-aged students.

Students looking to further their careers in education can apply for the Education Internship, a position that assists with the Junior Docent program, researching program and animal information, scheduling, education events, and various office work.

Students with a background in the sciences can apply to the Animal Care internship. In this internship, students will be working both alongside zookeepers as well as independently in different parts of the Zoo. A majority of the day as an Animal Care Intern is spent completing daily animal husbandry tasks such as cleaning, diet preparation, enrichment distribution and public education talks.

The Marketing and Special Events internship is available for students looking to develop skills in event planning, fundraising, and on and off-site marketing efforts. Interns will be involved with special events such as Zoo Brew & Wine Too, Ice Cream Safari, Spiedie Fest, Feast with the Beasts, and education programs.

Summer internships will run from May to August 2018. Application information is available on the Binghamton Zoo website, www.rossparkzoo.com, under the “Get Involved” tab > “Employment Opportunities”. These are unpaid internships.

For more information on internships at the Binghamton Zoo, contact Rachel Davenport at rdavenport@rossparkzoo.com or call (607) 724-5461 x231.
