The community is invited to attend a special event, “Jam for Jocelyn,” scheduled for Thursday, Dec. 7, at Bill’s Restaurant located at 53 South Depot St. in Owego, N.Y.

Jam for Jocelyn, a live music fundraiser, will feature several local musicians and groups performing acoustic tunes. Scheduled from 5 to 9 p.m., music starts at 6 p.m. and all proceeds will benefit Owego resident Jocelyn Kline and her family.

Jocelyn Kline was diagnosed with Stage 2 breast cancer in May 2017 and underwent treatment soon after. Recently, Jocelyn had surgery, a bi-lateral mastectomy, and while she recovers will be unable to work or care for her family.

Jocelyn and her husband, Ryan, have two young daughters, both under the age of five. Family and friends of the Kline family are reaching out to the community for support, and the money raised will be used for the Kline’s living and medical expenses.

Tickets for the “Jam for Jocelyn” event are $10 each and are available at Bill’s Restaurant, or by calling (607) 223-4063. Individuals interested in attending are encouraged to purchase tickets ahead of time, for planning purposes.

The Jam ticket includes entry to the live music show, along with food and a door prize entry. The fundraiser menu will include burgers, hot dogs, and a variety of salads and snacks. Drink specials will also be offered.

Performing at the event will be the Kitchen Sink Band, Heritage, Messy Truth, Confidential, and Mark and Nino.

Inspiration for the music fundraiser came from friends of the Kline’s, Dan Woody and Matt Pitcher, who in turn shared the idea with Ryan who reached out to Bill’s Restaurant owner, Bill Nadon.

In addition to an evening of great local music and good food, raffles and 50/50 drawings will be held. Donations of gift baskets and gift certificates for raffles will be gladly accepted and anyone interested in donating can call Bill’s Restaurant to arrange a time to drop off items before the event.

Nadon explained that any businesses or individuals who purchase five or more tickets will be recognized on Facebook, the Bill’s Restaurant website and also at the event.

The Kline’s have reciprocated twice this year themselves, the first after receiving assistance from the non-profit, Traci’s Hope, which helps individuals undergoing breast cancer treatments pay for expenses outside of medical bills.

As a way to give back, Ryan organized and brought together kayak and canoe enthusiasts in August for a successful fundraiser that featured a fun-filled ride down the Susquehanna River, and the proceeds of which benefitted both Traci’s Hope and the Kline’s.

In October, the Kline’s were inspired to pay it forward with a “Kans for the Kure” drive, in recognition of Breast Cancer Awareness Month. Partnering with Taylor Garbage, Ryan and the company collected over 75,000 cans and bottles. A check in the amount of $4,468 was present to Traci’s Hope on Nov. 22, and in addition, Taylor Garbage raised nearly $500 for the organization.
