Basketball team is filled with gratitude!

Dear Editor,

On behalf of the Owego Free Academy Boy’s Basketball Team, I would like to thank our community for their unwavering support of our trip to Atlanta. We managed to raise nearly $14,000 with your help!

This was a challenging initiative at times, undertaken by only a few individuals. To all the parents that helped – thank you!

We visited businesses, individuals, fans, parents, grandparents, alumni and others – it was rare that someone told us “No.” So many people stepped up to help in this endeavor. We are filled with gratitude.

From those who donated a few dollars on Lake Street a few weeks ago, to those who had their car washed at the Owego Pharmacy a few months ago, to those who bought Dunkin’ Donuts coffee, to those who purchased Krispy Kreme donuts, to those who organized and played in a golf tournament at Germany Hill, to those who donated and then had dinner one night at the Owego Kitchen – we thank you all from the bottom of our hearts.

The trip was a wonderful bonding experience. Playing in the inaugural Craig Sager Memorial Invitational Tournament (named after the former NBA announcer / reporter who died of leukemia last December) was an extraordinary experience. We were able to forge lifetime memories, make new friends, and play basketball against some top-notch competition.

Again, we thank you all so very much.

Sincerely,

Chris Evans

Head Basketball Coach
