Pasture Walk to take place in Owego on July 11

Cornell Cooperative Extension’s South Central NY Dairy and Field Crops Team is hosting two pasture walks in Tioga County. 

The first pasture walk will be on Tuesday, July 11, from 6 to 8 p.m. at Twin Brook Farm located at 304 Lainhart Rd. in Owego. Hosts Marvin and Mildred Moyer have raised livestock organically at Twin Brook Farm for decades. 

Topics to be covered include grazing beef cattle, chicken, pigs, sheep and more; pasture plant identification; and managing wanted / unwanted plants in the pasture. 

The second pasture walk will be on Tuesday, Aug. 29, from 6 to 8 p.m. at Red House Ranch located at 953 Rumsey Hill Rd. in VanEtten. Come hear Ike and Dave Mallula’s story and learn how they produce food their grandparents would recognize with new and improved techniques such as pastured chickens in chicken tractors; silvopastured pigs to utilize forest areas; and mob grazed beef cattle.Fay Benson will talk about getting the most out of grazing and Whole Farm Revenue Protection. 

Both events are free and light refreshments will be served. Pre-registration is not required.
