6K Walk for Water raises awareness

The global water crisis is shocking. Worldwide, 663 million people are without access to clean water, and those in Sub-Sahara Africa have it the worst. There, women and children have to walk an average of 6 kilometers or 3.72 miles a day to get water that is often dirty and contaminated.

On May 6, more than 27,000 people from all around the world joined World Visions Global for the 6K for Water, making this the biggest 6K for Water event that they have ever had.

The global team raised nearly 1.6 million dollars to support World Visions’ water programs. That support brings clean water to more than 31,000 children around the world.

In our own community, the congregation of the Owego United Methodist Church contributed $1,385 for the clean water cause. That number brings clean water to 28 children.

In a world where we often take things for granted, our hope is that events such as this will raise local awareness to the water crisis.
