The First Presbyterian Union Church celebrates its 200 years with an organ concert on Sunday, April 30 at 4 p.m. The First Presbyterian Union Church is located at the corner of North Avenue and Temple Street in Owego, N.Y.
Nationally known organist Dave Jackson will be joined by local organists Brenda Yeier and Jordan Dove. Washington Gladden said that as a youth, he took his turn pumping the organ at the Presbyterian Church. That was in the 1840s.
In 1889, a tracker organ was built by George Hutchings for the Oswego Congregational Church. In 1989, the First Presbyterian Union Church acquired and installed this antique organ, where it has been used in the worship experience every Sunday since.
On Sunday, a sing-along and a reception will follow the concert. All are welcome to this special concert as part of the church’s Bicentennial.
