It’s time to fix what is broken

Dear Editor,

“It is time to fix what is broken and provide all stakeholders the time and support they need to create a system of standards, curriculum, and assessments that works for students, parents and teachers.” — New York State Common Core Task Force final report Dec. 14, 2015, Binghamton U. Nov. 9, 2015.

NYSED-Questar Assessment contract CO124427 signed by a representative of NYSED Sept. 24, 2015; approved by the Attorney General of New York State Oct. 6, 2015, and NYS Comptroller, Oct. 13, 2015, 54 pages then redacted. Available March 2016, 826 pages containing the following; “ALL MATERIALS MUST BE HELD STRICTLY CONFIDENTIAL AND MUST NOT BE COPIED, DUPLICATED, OR DISSEMINATED BY ANY MANNER OR DISCUSSED WITH ANYONE EXCEPT AS AUTHORIZED BY NYSED.”

“The Regents are responsible for the general supervision of all educational activities within the State, presiding over the University and the New York State Education Department.” — NYSED

Should the Board of Regents explore the possibility of the termination of CO12427? Does the aforementioned information provide sufficient reason to request action by the Board of Regents? If so consider the following e-mail addresses: Regents Office@nysed.gov, Commissioner@nysed.gov. Share your thoughts with those who are responsible.

Sincerely,

Joe Albrecht
