The Minnesota State Colleges and Universities System honored David P. Jones, vice president for Student Affairs and Enrollment Management at Minnesota State University Mankato, with the Outstanding Academic Student Affairs Administrator award. The award is presented to administrators at the director, dean or vice president levels who have made significant contributions to the development student affairs programming at their institution.
During the 2014-2015 year, Dr. Jones served as co-creator of the Future Mavericks Pathways with South Central College and Riverland Community College to improve student transfer opportunities. He also launched a highly successful online scholarship finder program, which awarded over $100,000 in scholarships through a single application process. Further under Dr. Jones’ leadership, services for families and transfer students were expanded in the newly named Office of New Student and Family Programs.
Among his numerous accomplishments, Jones has worked closely with University offices and student organizations to support emerging student needs and requests in such areas as residential life, Greek Life and Campus Recreation programs.
Dr. Jones is a 1988 graduate of Owego Free Academy. His college training began at SUNY Oswego College; he earned a master’s degree from the University of Nebraska at Kearney and a Doctor of Philosophy degree from the College of William and Mary in 2002.
Dr. Jones had held administrative positions at the College of William and Mary, University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill and the University of Alabama before being appointed to his current position at Minnesota State University, Mankato.
Dr. Jones lives in Mankato with his wife, Dr. Jennifer Benson Jones and children, a son, Cooper, age 13 and a daughter, Riley, age 11. The Jones family is very active in sports and recreational activities.
Dr. Jones is the son of Dr. John E. Jones of Owego.
