The Tioga United Way is delighted to announce the debut of the “Dancing United with the Starz,” a semi-formal evening of performances, fun and entertainment, modeled after the hit TV show “Dancing with the Stars.” This is an event you won’t want to miss, and will take place Nov. 7 at the Pumpelly Estate Carriage House in Owego, N.Y.

Eight local celebrities including Mike Bartlow (Owego Apalachin teacher), Laura Eberly (overlord of Riverow Bookshop), Jane Nichols (business manager at Keith M. Nichols, MD), Moira Osorio (ADR and CASA specialist at ACCORD), Barbara Patten (director of Pre-School Education at Franziska Racker Center), Brandon Smith (Scott Smith & Son), Reathea Woodburn (former Owego Elementary teacher), and Dave Woodburn (former deputy director of Tioga Opportunities) will partner with experts to dance their way into your heart and wallet at this fundraiser for the Tioga United Way.

Guests in attendance can bring their votes (dollars) and donate to their favorite dancer the night of the show, and folks who can’t make it can vote before the thrilling night. The participants will compete for best dancer, best dance routine and other “bests,” as well as for votes, which are based on donations received before and during the event.

The two winning couples (technical and most popular) will be determined by a panel of judges, combined with votes from the audience. The votes will be tallied and the winners will be announced at the end of the night.

Master of Ceremonies Jerry Natoli, and disc jockey Mike Neil will be bringing down the house and keeping the audience captivated. A popular balloon pop will feature local wines, a one-night stay at the Pumpelly Estate, and more.

Another highlight of this sensational night is an exhibition dance by the handsome couple, Connie and Brian Sternberg. They have been rehearsing their performance and are sure to be an audience pleaser.

Tickets are $45 per person or $80 per couple and reservations are required. Contact the Tioga United Way office at (607) 687-4028 to purchase your tickets or if you cannot attend but still want to vote for your favorite contender.

You can also cast a vote by using PayPal, but be sure to identify for which dancer you are voting in the “Add special instructions to the seller” box. Each vote is $1 and there’s no limit to the number of votes you can cast.

The Southern Tier Swing Dance Society, the Blackbird Bakery & Eatery, and the Pumpelly Estate have graciously donated their time and resources. They have made this event possible.

All proceeds raised in Tioga County stay in Tioga County.
