NYSP investigating a hunting accident in Broome CountyOn Sept. 26, 2015, at about 1:52 p.m., the New York State Police at Deposit responded to a Broome County 911 report of a hunting accident on state property off of Marsh Pond Road in the Town of Sanford.

According to state police, an investigation determined that two separate groups of hunters were legally hunting squirrels on state land off of Marsh Pond Road when Duane L. Wayman, 45, of Binghamton, N.Y. fired his .410 gauge shotgun at a grey squirrel; he failed to observe another hunter who was standing in his line of fire and accidentally shot him.

The other hunter, Andy M. Patrick, 50, of Johnson City, N.Y. was injured by three pellets that struck him near his right eye, the right side of his chest and his left shoulder.

Andy M. Patrick was transported to Wilson Memorial Medical Center for his non-life threatening injuries by Broome County Volunteer Emergency Squad.

All hunters possessed valid licenses.  New York State Environmental Conservation Police responded to the scene and the investigation is ongoing.
