Unofficial primary results arrive in Tioga County, N.Y.The primary elections leading to the Nov. 3 general elections in Tioga County, N.Y. took place on Thursday due to a date change that was dictated by the New York State Board of Elections due to a holiday. Voting was open from noon to 9 p.m., with results arriving at approximately 10 p.m.

For Tioga County Clerk, in which Republicans Debbie Howard and Andrea Klett were vying to be placed on November’s ballot, Klett defeated Howard in the primary with 857 (Klett) and 436 (Howard) votes rendered, and one write-in.

In Candor, N.Y., Republicans Nancy Leonard, Patricia Halstead, and Connie Kulze were running to earn a seat in the general election for Town Clerk. Voters chose Connie Kulze over Nancy Leonard and Patricia A. Halstead with a vote count of 152 (Kulze) 63 (Hallstead) and 52 (Leonard).

In the Town of Tioga, Republicans Karen Wells and Brenda Middendorf challenged each other to be on the ballot in November’s general election for Tioga Town Clerk. In this race, Middendorf defeated Wells with a vote count of 203 (Middendorf) and 54 (Wells), with 100 percent reporting.

Also in the Town of Tioga, Miranda Fisher challenged Republican incumbent Paul Martin Jr. for Town of Tioga Justice. Martin earned a spot on November’s ballot over Fisher with a vote of 165 (Martin) and 96 (Fisher), with 100 percent reporting.

There were no primary challenges in Berkshire, Newark Valley, Owego, Nichols, Barton and Spencer, N.Y. outside of the primary challenge for Tioga County Clerk; however, in Richford, N.Y., three Democrats – William Stell Sr., Cynthia Herrick, and Ricky Brown challenged each other for two vacant seats on the Town Council.

Stell and Herrick defeated Brown by a vote count of 23 (Stell), 19 (Herrick), 0 (Brown), and there was one write-in vote.
