Dog Days in Newark Valley

Dogs and their owners are invited to participate in Newark Valley Days on Saturday, Aug. 8. They can walk in the parade, enter a costume contest, see dog demonstrations, and generally have a doggone good time.

Dogs need current a Rabies vaccine in order to participate in the parade and costume contest.

The parade check-in and line up begins at 10:30 a.m. at the parking lot of the former Ladder Factory on Silk Street. The parade begins at 11 a.m. and concludes around noon at 79 Whig St., the Newark Valley bus garage parking lot.

The dog costume contest will be held at the Newark Valley Train Depot at 1 p.m. Owners are encouraged to wear costumes along with their dogs. Each dog and owner that enters the contest will receive a treat.

Prizes will be awarded for the best apple theme, the funniest, the most creative and the dog and owner that look most alike. Sign up for the costume contest will begin at 12:30 p.m. at the Train Depot.

After the costume contest, youth from The Paws to Think 4-H Dog Club of Tioga County will demonstrate obedience and agility skills with their dogs.
