The Sept. 28 column had a question regarding whether school kids use the library. Yes, they do! Especially now that schools are cell phone-free! Kids of ALL ages are checking out books, magazines, manga, anime, graphic novels, games, and they are using our free library apps like Libby and Kanopy. Public libraries also have free park and museum passes, WiFi hotspots, kitchen appliances, and even ukuleles. Public libraries offer more than just books now – please stop by and visit your local branch!

It is illegal in NYS to hunt from any vehicles, even four-wheelers. You need to contact local law enforcement or the DEC. If you can get a license number, that would help. If it’s just a matter of you not wanting anybody to hunt for some reason, it results in fewer deer on the road, so they aren’t causing crashes. When they become overpopulated, they are more likely to get chronic wasting disease or a new hemorrhagic disease that could be around here. All these things are way more painful to the deer than a clean shot that kills them immediately.

I think what’s needed for the Village of Newark Valley is new leadership. We will be voting for the mayor’s position before you know it. I hope someone will run because a change is needed!

I know this will not get out in time for the Oct. 6 meeting, but I would like to share it with the village residents. (Not well publicized.) Village to become a sanctuary village! There are 340 residents in the village; 100 are 65 and older, 29 households with single occupants. We have a cop on for 16 hours a week. There are no jobs or housing here. This doesn’t make any sense.

We have a two-week fire ban going on here in Nichols. It should be longer than that, and it doesn’t seem to bother people. They are still having fires, especially here in the outskirts of Nichols. They’re burning; I can see the smoke and smell it, but hopefully nobody’s home catches on fire because of the irresponsible people who do have outside fires going when they’re not supposed to. Good luck to everybody!

I’m calling in reference to the already sign-cluttered intersection at Church and Main Street, near the theater. Now there’s a political sign within 6-inches of the side of the road. I think it should be removed; it’s not only more clutter, but it’s illegal, and so is the second sign. I can’t believe that a person running for legislature and who has been on the Village Board would not know that you cannot put signs up within 24 feet of an intersection. I think these should be removed, and I find that totally disrespectful and unlawful.

This for the person calling about the window shooter. If you know so much about this guy, there are game wardens you can call to turn him in and get him arrested instead of sending it into the Pennysaver column all the time. Take care of it.

I want to congratulate three businesses. First is Lowe’s; I got a refrigerator there, with very nice salesmen and delivery guys who work carefully in your house and deliver on Sundays. The second is Robert’s Eyecare; they called me back about my appointment a second time because I was sent to a cornea specialist. Third is Shaul’s Appliance in Johnson City. He called, caring for my feelings one day when I was upset about the way other places operated. He just wanted to know if I was okay. Three very nice places to deal with!

Trump’s dementia is getting worse if he is rambling about stairs to our troops.

My grocery bills are going up because of these tariffs, and my power bill is getting out of control because of these AI technologies!

If there is a shutdown, I think it would be a tremendously negative mark on the President of the United States – Donald Trump

Trump changed the name of the Gulf of Mexico to the Gulf of America, and I think he wants to change the name of America to Trumpastan.
