The Tioga County Allies in Substance Abuse Prevention (ASAP) Coalition is hosting a candlelight vigil to commemorate International Overdose Awareness Day on Thursday, Aug. 30, at the Courthouse Square Gazebo in Owego from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. During this event attendees will have the opportunity to pay tribute to those impacted by substance use and create personalized luminaries in their honor.
Complete with public speakers, resources, a candlelight walk and light refreshments, the event aims to increase awareness and reduce the negative stigma associated with substance use in our area.
This year’s theme for International Overdose Awareness Day is “Time to Remember. Time to Act.” With this in mind, the ASAP Coalition is inviting local businesses to act in solidarity with the Tioga County community by participating in their remembrance walk.
For a suggested sponsorship of $15, members of the Tioga County ASAP Coalition will bring your business a personalized window display flyer, flameless LED candle and event poster to showcase in your storefront window. These window displays on Front Street and Lake Street will help bring awareness to this important issue by literally lighting a path of hope, recovery and healing for the community.
In addition to being recognized at the event as an official sponsor and supporter of Overdose Awareness Day, promotional photos of your business and custom window display will also be featured on our social media pages.
Members of the ASAP Coalition will deliver and collect window display materials and flameless LED candles from your business location to make the participation process as convenient as possible for you.
