At the OA Awards Night ceremony on June 8, the OA Music Boosters announced Maleah Farr as the recipient of the 2016 OA Music Boosters $500 college scholarship. Maleah has been very active in numerous high school music activities and will be pursuing a career in music education.
In addition, the boosters this year have awarded five $100 scholarships to current students who are taking time this summer to further their music experience and training. Jordan Dove, Hannah Foster, Skylar Pierce, Laura Robertson, and Megan Shoen are the recipients.
The OA Music Boosters support the OA Music Department and its students in many ways. In addition to the scholarships this year’s efforts included support for Jazz Night, The ACDA All-Eastern choir participants, a Cornell Men’s Glee Club workshop for students, the purchase of new microphones for the theater, a contribution to the musical, and a large contribution to the procurement of new instruments for the bands.
The boosters rely on fundraisers throughout the year. Their two major ones are the Craft Fair in December and the sale of ads in the musical’s Playbill. In addition, they can be found selling refreshments at the concerts.
