New student housing complex pursuing unique opportunity to give back

The newest off-campus student apartment community is nearly complete, and it is already looking to implement a unique way to give back to the community. Campus Evolution Villages, LLC, the company that manages the property, is exploring the concept of a student-run philanthropic convenience store to be located on-site. Students would run the store itself, and proceeds from purchases would be donated to a charitable cause.

“We thought this concept would serve two important purposes by giving students a chance to earn a little extra money and allowing them to help give back to a cause they feel strongly about,” said Gretta Dare, vice president for marketing and leasing with Campus Evolution Villages. “Plus, having access to a convenience store where they live will make life just a little bit easier for busy college students.”

Printing House is seeking feedback on the concept from students and faculty at SUNY Binghamton. They are also interested in suggestions on which organization the store should support. Anyone who has ideas or other comments should email the Campus Evolution team at mdalby@cevillages.com.

The Printing House was created through the renovation of two structures that were built in the early 1900s – the Press Building at 19 Chenango St. and the Kilmer Building at 21 Chenango St. William H. Lane Incorporated is remodeling the buildings to retain their historic charm while adding high-end modern amenities.

Once complete, the Printing House aims to be the largest and most luxurious student apartment complex in the greater Binghamton area. A variety of layouts are offered, including units with one through six bedroom floor plans, accommodating a total of 275 residents. The off-campus housing is just a short commute or shuttle ride to campus. The Printing House opens for students beginning this fall. Lease applications are currently being accepted.
