The driver involved in a pedestrian personal injury motor vehicle accident that occurred at 8:04 p.m. on Wednesday, March 16 on North Avenue and near the intersection of West Avenue in the Village of Owego has been arrested. According to the Owego Police Department, the pedestrian, 59-year old Gene Johns of Owego, N.Y., was struck by a vehicle that was traveling south on North Avenue.
The operator of the vehicle, Joshua Brown, age 32 of Owego, N.Y. was arrested for Aggravated Unlicensed Operation of a Motor Vehicle in the 2nd Degree. Joshua Brown was arraigned in Village of Owego court and remanded to the Tioga County Jail on $2,500 cash or $5,000 bail.
Gene Johns was transported to the hospital by the Owego Emergency Squad. At the time of the reporting, his condition is not known.
The road was blocked off for over an hour following the accident, and traffic was re-routed. Owego Police Department was assisted by the Owego Fire Police.
The investigation is continuing.
