OLL News Brief

OLL News BriefHere are some common volunteer opportunities for Owego Little League (OLL). Consult with an OLL official on how to best use your talents and skills to provide the kids with the best possible baseball, tee ball, girls softball and Teener League baseball experience possible.

Manage or Coach – This requires time, patience, and basic knowledge of baseball. You may be required to attend meetings, instruction sessions, or seminars. You will communicate with the parents / guardians of your players to inform them of any schedule changes, rainouts, events and activities.

As a manager or coach, you have more interaction with young people than anyone else. It is important that you understand the goals and values of OLL in order to effectively communities them to your players. If interested in coaching or managing, contact VP Baseball Steve Terry.

Field Maintenance – OLL maintains six fields at Hyde Park that your child plays on. As a part of the field maintenance crew, your skills and abilities may be used to mow grass, line fields, rake dirt, and execute minor repairs on fences, benches and bleachers.

OLL had three major events this past week.

On Wednesday night, President Ken Winters and VPs of Baseball Steve Terry, Softball Dave York and Teener League Jim Lavo conducted the annual League Information Meeting at the Ronald E. Dougherty County Office Building.

Player Agent Eric Hawkins did “Last Chance Sign Up for the 2016 Season” outside the Department of Motor Vehicles offices.

At Saturday’s Indoor Baseball Clinic at OAMS, OLL players learned baseball skills the right way.

Reminder to OLL Officers: The annual pre-season meeting is at 7 p.m. on Tuesday, March 8, at the Tioga Opportunities Community Center.

Volunteer(s) are needed to document OLL history for the past 15 years. It’ll be broken down into small manageable tasks to avoid wasting time. There will be a person to coordinate the research efforts – organizing the project and assigning tasks where needed.

Research includes are any of the original members or their family members still part of OLL? Have OLL graduates represented the region or country or served in the armed forces?

Get it on paper. It’ll take time to craft. Create an outline and fill in the blanks. Stick to the “facts.” Get work edited so that the writing is well structured, readable, and free of grammatical and spelling mistakes. Try to find photos.
